Parcel data has always been one of the key Foundational Elements of the WI Land Information Program (WLIP). WI Cadastral mapping has been defined as - useable for land title determinations - and is required to be based on a survey grade Public Land Survey System (PLSS) corner framework. Most WI counties maintain at least Index parcel mapping, with a long-term goal of fully developing Cadastral parcels. In 2013, Parcel Mapping and PLSS Remonumentation became WLIP strategic initiatives providing significant funding toward advancing that goal. Cadastral mapping requires attention to detail, interpretation of legal descriptions, and knowledge of WI land surveying laws and administrative rules. This lecture-based workshop will venture into the PLSS, subdivision plats, property surveys/CSMs, the WI HARN, statutes & case law, road right-of-ways, riparian rights, junior/senior rights, old plats, and orders of precedence. Whether you are new to parcel mapping, or an old pro, this workshop will help you become more masterful at the art of “Cadastral Like” parcel mapping.
