Are you a GIS application builder who’s looking to build up your own experience with Experience Builder? Look no further, this workshop will give you some experience upon which you can build!
This workshop is tailored for ArcGIS Online (AGOL) users who are either new to Experience Builder (ExB) or have recently started working with this GIS application configuration environment. The workshop host has personally developed, overseen, and assisted other DNR staff in developing their own ExB apps. This firsthand experience paired with DNR’s collected tips and tricks accrued since the release of ExB will provide useful insights from a non-ESRI perspective.
The workshop aims to cover a range of introductory topics, including an introductory overview of ExB, a practical assessment of its capabilities and current limitations, and demos and hands-on exercises to help attendees overcome common initial challenges when starting from scratch or transitioning from AGOL Web AppBuilder development. Specific areas of focus include preparing AGOL content for a seamless transition to ExB applications, utilizing ESRI's ExB templates, configuring page element and functional widgets, and configuring mobile user experiences.
By the end of this workshop, participants will have gained practical experience and created some basic sample projects that can serve as building blocks for their future work.
Attendees are encouraged (not required) to have access to their AGOL accounts to actively engage in workshop activities. If that's not feasible, attendees can still benefit from live demonstrations and take notes for later use. If you attended last year the topics will be mostly similar, but the content will be updated a bit.

Join in and listen close as I tell you the tale of our first foray in the ArcGIS JS SDK. With the goal of rebuilding the Wisconsin Historic Aerial Imagery Finder application, our first task was to formulate a plan by determining our requirements and choosing a technology—spoiler, we chose the ArcGIS JS SDK. Next, we began prototyping the interface; how were we going to provide access to all of these aerial imagery points?! And finally, at long last, we got to start writing code. But wait! How exactly were we going to do that; what software to use? Well, I guess you’ll have to attend to find out.

Like many organizations, the GIS Division at the City of Waukesha has encountered a problem: the need to keep up with an increasing interest in GIS across the organization while maintaining a high level of service. This presentation will show how the City’s GIS Division used Esri’s new GIS Request Management Solution as the foundation for GeoHub, a management nexus for GIS staff and a central application destination for non-GIS staff. Using a combination of out-of-the-box and custom applications, GeoHub keeps stakeholders engaged throughout the duration of their GIS projects, provides a destination for them to access their final project deliverables, and clearly documents and communicates the role of GIS at the organization, all within the Esri ecosystem.
Join this session to discover tips and tricks for integrating ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. Learn how to use web maps and data in ArcGIS Online with Pro, explore SaaS-based GIS implementations that use ArcGIS Online as a system of record and data editing platform, and see how analysis is performed with Pro using web-based tools and desktop software. This presentation will be a valuable resource for GIS professionals looking to optimize their data management workflow and leverage the full capabilities of ArcGIS Online.

Maps can help make a fantasy world more tangible to us. JRR Tolkien created Middle Earth originally from linguistic inspiration simply because he needed a reason, a place, and history for the Elvish languages he created. The maps of Middle Earth would become one of Tolkien’s most arduous journeys in creating his world. While some may argue that fantasy isn’t “real,” to Tolkien, the world he imagined has at least some truth to it. Middle Earth has a sense that it all existed in his imagination. Tolkien could have told you the height of the Misty Mountains or how vast of the Dead Marshes are. There are fantastical elements to Middle Earth, sure, but Tolkien’s “imaginary” languages, cultures, world, and geography are based upon our world and his travels during World War I. In a sense, they are rooted in some truth. ESRI now offers a Middle Earth “Style” labeled as “My Precious Style,” created by our guest speaker John Nelson. Join me and other fellow nerds to learn about the stories, pop culture, history, geography, and maps that brought fantasy into the mainstream.
